101 - What skin care do I need?

Options are valuable. However, when you look at the hundreds of skin care products on shelves today, they are just overwhelming. Too much information. Often the product purchased, is the one that is best marketed or packaged or recommended by the sales assistant as she makes the most commission on it.

Over the next few months, we are going to be focusing on providing our guests with much needed skin care knowledge to enable them to make the correct purchase for their skin.

Should you have any skin care questions or queries, please feel free to call or visit and one of our knowledgeable therapists will be able to assist.

Here is a basic facial regime to help you achieve the best results and ensure healthy skin overall:

Cleanse

Daily cleansing helps to reduce blackheads and congestion caused by bacteria and minimises blemishes, complexation and removes make-up that blocks your skin’s pores.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation twice a week aids in removing dead skin cells that the skin naturally sheds. This also reveals a radiant appearance and stimulates skin cell renewal. Remember your skin is an organ!

Masks

Masking your skin twice a week acts as a booster to healthier skin, unclogging pores and decongesting your skin of unwanted bacteria. Depending on your skin type and concerns, different masks can aid in hydration, anti-ageing, blemish control and complexation, to name a few.

Serums

Serums help restore your skin’s PH level. They contain active ingredients in a liquid form to promote optimum skin function, while also rejuvenating your skin for a younger, healthier appearance. Serums target the layers of the skin below the epidermis.

Day & Night Creams

Day and night creams generally keep hydration locked into your skin. According to your skin type and its concerns, using the right creams morning and evening reduces the risks of damage, and helps rebalance and replenish your desired look.

Night creams are formulated with high active ingredients to aid in your skin’s resting period and therefore should only be used at night.

Eye Creams/Eye Gels

Skin around the eyes is thinner and lacks sweat glands, making it more sensitive and prone to ageing faster than the rest of your skin. Eye treatments are specially designed to treat and target specific problems such as dark circles, fine lines, wrinkles and puffiness.

Sun Protection Factors (SPF)

UVB/UVA rays release free radicals (oxidative stress) that the skin needs to activate antioxidants to maintain healthy cell production. Free radicals counteract the production of living skin cells and cause skin imbalances such as uneven complexation, premature ageing and skin cancers, among many other damaging factors. SPFs are designed to act as a protecting barrier, reducing the damage from free radicals and mild environment bacteria.
