What is my skin type?
There are over seven billion people in the world and every person has unique DNA and skin type. It is important to know your skin type, because if you don’t, you may end up using the incorrect products.
The four main skin types are:
Normal,
Dry,
Oily and
Combination.
Here is all you need to know to determine your skin type:
Normal Skin Type:
Normal skin has fine pores, good blood circulation, soft and smooth texture to the skin, no blemishes, has a fresh rosy colour and is not prone to skin sensitivity. As this skin type ages, the skin can become drier leading to sensitivity. If you do have a normal skin type, you should consider using the Nourish range by Lamelle, which is specifically to help with pre-mature ageing and moisturising. Its main ingredients include: Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin A, C and E as well as Aloe Vera. It contains a fragrance-free & alcohol-free foam cleanser, two nourishing moisturisers as well as an eye cream and a lovely oil-free SPF 30+.
Dry Skin Type:
Dry skin type produces less sebum than normal skin, resulting in moisture being lost daily and lack of protection against the harsh external factors. This in turns leads to an impaired non-functional skin barrier. Dry skin feels tight, brittle, rough and can appear dull. Skin elasticity is also low. This is one of the most common skin types in the world, Lamelle has designed a range specifically for this skin type. The main ingredients in this range includes Ceramide-P, which helps keep the moisture in the skin and acts as a lipid replacement therapy. The range contains a soap-free, paraben-free and fragrance-free foam cleanser that can be used twice a day, two creams that can either be used morning and evening or just during the day or at night. These creams are the Serra Restore Cream and the Serra Soothing Cream. The Serra Restore Cream is formulated to restore any lipids that is lost during our day to day activities whereas the Serra Soothing Cream aids in eliminating the redness of the skin as well as soothing the skin that itches. For masking, you can use the Serra Lipid Recovery Mask which is a cream base and can be applied before going to sleep. They also have a phenomenal Body Lotion that is designed to help a dry itchy skin.
Oily Skin Types:
This particular skin type suffers from the over production of sebum, which is the oiliness that one sees on the skin during the day or night, and leaves the skin looking and feeling oily. Several factors can trigger or cause this over-production, the main causes include; genetics (your DNA), hormonal imbalances, medication and stress. Enlarged and visible pores can be seen and the skin has a glossy shine and is thicker in texture. All our clients and have seen a tremendous improvement in the skin by using the Lamelle Clarity range. This range consist of an Active Foam Cleanser, a Morning cream, a Night cream, an Active Spot treatment as well as tablets that you take daily to help regulate the oily production in the skin. The main ingredients in these products are Growth Factors, Salicylic Acid and Niacin amide.
Combination Skin Type:
Combination skin type means that you have two or more characteristics of the above-mentioned skin types. This presents itself with an oily T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), sometimes there is enlarged pores and impurities in this area, the cheeks can be normal to dry and sensitive.
Once you have established what skin type you have, we can move onto what products your skin will need. This can prove to be difficult as there are thousands of different products on the market that promise results but, in the end, leaves us only with disappointment. Ideally you should be looking for natural and organic skincare products which will leave your skin feeling healthy, supple and hydrated.
